Riddle me this America, What actually happened in McKinney Texas? WE know some of the facts. A pool was involved, people who were invited to said pool were involved and people who were not invited were involved. We know that a policeman probably acted with too much zeal was involved and we know that several children who did not do what police asked them to do were involved and now America is involved, probably not a good thing. Oh yea and we kno that breaking a law was also involved.
Ok where to begin, a party was going on at a rented public pool and a group of uninvited children decided to hope the fence and join in. First law being broken, trespassing. Then these children started ruff housing with invited guests and started a fight with mothers who were invited, probably bad. At this point police are called and shortly they arrive. When police tell the uninvited children to sit down on the grass they run, get caught and when a policeman tries to force a young lady who stops and sits, yes she ran then did what she was supposed to do, two young white gentlemen come up behind the policeman trying to help her, in turn said policeman draws his weapon, also probably bad but he was being threatened at the time. More children running around, police swearing at people and telling some to leave and others to sit down. This ends with the Policeman’s resignation and a whole lot of people screaming race.
The boys that the gun was drawn on were white, so probably not racial, the girl and others in question spent a great deal of time talking back and not doing what was asked and I might add this whole thing started with that same girl and friends trespassing.
One might say the police over reacted and it is hard to dispute but their job is to keep those people in the community that pays them safe from knuckleheads who trespass for their own enjoyment and that is what was happening. Also those that were caught spent a great deal of time bad mouthing the police and not doing what was asked of them. So when asked I would say that the failure in this situation is not of the police or the people at the party but of the parents whose children were trespassing. Maybe we should give tickets to parents when their children are addressed by police but ignore them instead of doing what is asked. Maybe we should hold the parents accountable for not teaching their children the difference between trespassing and an invitation. Maybe we should hold the parents responsible for not teaching their children the proper response to others is not to argue when you are in the wrong and maybe do what is asked of you by the police so incidents do not occur like this one. Maybe it is time we as a nation start to demand that the blame firmly goes back where it belongs, to the families who are failing these children.
Riddle me this middle aged America what would your parents do if you were uninvited to a party and picked up by the police, my guess it was not side with you, and maybe these parents should understand now why they did not side with the children. America it is time for us as parents and people to take responsibility for our own actions. The time is now or we may find it is to late.
