- As I started to think about what to write today, I was reminded that this is the Christmas season.
First let’s analyze what this means; the season of love, the season of giving, a season to decorate our homes in ways that make us feel good. A season to bake until our hands bleed and give those goodies to all we see with pride. A season to remember Jesus and God and to acknowledge we believe and teach our children as much as we understand about the subject. A season of family movies and feel good moments for families and Friends.
Sounds pretty good doesn’t it? So it made me wonder why we do not have a life of Christmas instead of a season. Aren’t all these things, things we should be doing daily? People complain about putting Christmas decorations up before thanksgiving, who cares if it brings joy to someone and makes them smile. I believe we complain because we are busy and have no time (Yes I included myself in the cynicism). I watch drivers all in hurry and yelling and honking at one another and I am sure they all talk about the holidays positively but why when they cannot act accordingly?
Now here is a truth about life I will hit my readers with, why are we not acting and decorating and worshipping and treating family and friends with joy and baking and eating and singing all year round? An interesting quandary, why indeed? It takes little effort to smile and laugh; it takes no more effort to decorate your home in a way that brings joy to you, year round than it does to decorate at Christmas. How hard would it be to daily acknowledge God (No I did not say go to church). How hard to slow down a bit and enjoy each moment. To bake with our children or watch a movie with the whole family? Every person reading this could do this each day or week and would not lose any more time than standing in line at McDonalds bitching about their diet. Lift a glass to family and Friends that have passed or somehow disappeared to time. Couldn’t we all give a gift from time to time to someone who may need to know you care? Hold a hand or just speak kindly to someone?
Yes I know there are bullies out there and Criminals but there are far more good decent people, so maybe we should show it not only at Christmas but all year. If I have any New Year’s resolution at all it is to act all year they way I feel at Christmas, maybe if we all tried a little harder at that, our world would get a little better, a little easier a little more joyful for us all.
God Speed and God Bless
