“I thinks I can lead conservative members of his caucus who disagree with me on tactics to fight President Obama's executive orders on immigration.”
Boehner was asked if he can continue leading those members as Speaker?
“I think so. I’m not going to suggest it’s easy, because it’s not,”
“We do have some members who disagree from time to time over the tactics that we decide to employ,”
“Republicans are united that the president has far exceeded his constitutional authority.”
Interview with John Boehner on Face the Nation
Today there is an Article with Boehner stating he thinks he can lead the GOP conservatives against Obama. I would like to say unequivocally that Boehner by the nature of this statement needs to step down from being the Speaker of the House. It is this failure to understand leadership that is at the root of the GOP issues and forgetting what it means to be conservative in the first place.
Let’s analyze this statement for a moment, the statement itself tells you something about Boehner, first he is not a conservative and second he is unsure of his leadership ability. Both ideas should make all GOP members cringe and every member of the house GOP rethink his or her support of this man. True leaders know what they are capable of and what they are not, which is usually the first thing good leaders do is take personal inventory and make sure they are surrounded by those that complement them. That by the way would not be suck ups or sycophants.
Now there is the idea of fighting Obama’s immigration move, well shouldn’t that be fighting Obama altogether? This implies compromise which should not be on the GOP agenda, why you might ask, well because Obama is wrong and by wrong I mean breaking the law. A good leader understands when to stand and fight and when to compromise and Boehner is woefully unprepared for either.
The last thing that he mentions is that “we have members that disagree with him” good that means there is healthy debate and other options are always present. This should be the order of the day, always surround yourself with those that challenge you, that is how greatness is reached but the implication here is that Boehner would prefer the sycophants instead and that is all I need to know about John Boehner and his leadership. Oh and you are the Speaker of the house easy is not on the agenda, suck it up and get the work done that is what you are paid so well for.
The impression that I now have of John Boehner is of a whiney little man who wants things his way but his way is a very narrow field of view and for the most part wrong. This may not be true but this is how I feel after reading this interview and I am pretty sure I am not alone in that belief. So it makes me wonder why he is leading the GOP in the house at all? Does he have what it takes to do his job at all, I doubt it.
