America I do not understand so you will have to help me here, what in God’s name are we doing? When we act out against another person’s personal choices? Are we not supposed to be free in this nation? Does that not imply others are free to make choices for themselves? So if we all understand this how does the nation break down so badly over a law (that in reality is not necessary) in Indiana?
Anyone who says that standing up for homosexuals by preventing an opposition view through violence or forced silence is no less a bigot then the original offender and here is your problem bigotry although morally wrong is not against the law, in fact it is protected by free speech, you remember the first amendment. I do not agree with anyone voicing an opinion that judges others but I will and have defended their right to speak. I might remind this nation that once we are no longer free to speak, especially about unpopular subjects, we are no longer free.
I mentioned that the law is not necessary, I say this because we do have first amendment protection, that implies that when I choice to exercise my free will in religion, thought and voice it I have done nothing wrong, even if you disagree. The catch is that you may voice an opposing opinion but there is a line, once you threaten someone because of their views as a High School coach in Indiana did by inciting others to burn down a business they disagreed with you have broken the law. Telling someone you disagree or even choosing not to patronize a business is much different then telling them you will destroy their business through fire?
There was a time when blacks wanted equality and through some bitter times and a whole lot of open hatred we have come to the legal conclusion that equality is right and good. Was it wrong for us to take so long? Yes of course but it happened that way and here is the catch, we have learned nothing from the experience. There are many reasons we are ignorant of our past, personal bias, poor education, politicians changing history but in the end we must correct this, for without correct knowledge of our past we will have no future. So should gays be allowed to marry, of course and should business retain the right to serve who they want, of course, if you do not like the businesses choice tell the world your opinion and hope others agree and do not patronize the business, we call that voting through the free market and it works every time. No one needs to hurt anyone, no one needs to threaten anyone just share ideas and if you are right then the world will act accordingly but the minute you try and force others to think the way you want them to, we are no longer free and freedom is that currency we all are seeking.
Each person on this planet has a right to express themselves and their opinions in whatever way they choose within basic limits, that limit is simple, do not cross into another person’s ability to express themselves. You have a right to your opinion and as important so does every person that disagree with you. Should anyone discriminate against gays, no, do gays have a right to force others to serve them, no, it is that simple. Can we stop acting like children now and get back to some real issues this country has and stop listening to those who keep pointing fingers, that solves nothing.
