Now for the record I have bashed a few politicians and will continue to speak my mind, when and where it is appropriate and the 1st amendment gives me that right. The first amendment gives this person the right to voice their opinion of me also and I agree they have the right to do just that, I can listen or not as I choose. What I find interesting is that the only argument this individual could come up with was my spelling and word usage. It was at that moment I began to laugh.
If I ever wanted to know if my blog is successful all I have to do is reread that twitter posting. If through all the ideas and concepts I speak about, the only defense someone has against my thoughts is my spelling or word use, I feel I have done what I started out to do. Remind the American people of our unique heritage, that we are a free nation who can correct each other or try without violence or hatred. Yes I know they disagreed with my points, but they read them and found fault in only my spelling.
It is truly an American idea to disagree with others and being able to speak freely of that disagreement. It is truly an America ideal to speak publicly on ideas others will ultimately dislike and know you have the right to your thoughts no matter how distasteful. I am not trying to change the world with this blog but remind the American people there are those of us who will defend the constitution with our thoughts and writings as strongly as we did when we were soldiers and defended the citizens of this nation with cold steel and our blood. Being an American is a diverse idea, one of many colors and thoughts, an idea that transcends our differences and brings us together on our humanity.
Are there those who would use these freedoms to hurt others, certainly but they are not the norm, Americans in crisis stand together and attempt to make the world a better place, we make mistakes but we as a people usually own up to our mistakes and move forward knowing our successes are more frequent. This is why I stand against any politician that says they want to fundamentally change our nation’s ideas, that means they want to take away the good as well as the bad and make us something different. This President (Obama) wants to create a welfare state, we as Americans should have been offended at the idea but instead under the guise of helping the weak we allowed this man to enslave them in government programs and make them weaker. It is not the American way to take a hand out; we work for what is ours and work hard.
Being American is not about black skin or white skin, it is not about socio economic placement it is about the freedom to be what we choose to be and pursue that dream of ourselves no matter where it leads. That person on twitter, I thank you for reminding me that I am an American and I hope God blesses you and reminds you, you can speak your mind because you have that right born out of an idea that all people are born with unalienable rights, reiterated by our constitution.
I do not want to fundamentally change, I want to remind myself of our values and be proud I am part of a nation that understands we are a free people and that we each are important.
