The reality here is simple, a gun is a tool, like any other tool it can and will be used at the workman’s discretion, if the workman is sane and has talent the work will be a masterpiece, but if the workman is a loon you might end up with something Charles Manson would be proud of. Yet it is the workman that takes responsibility for his work not the tools he has chosen for the job.
Another way to go with this argument is simple also, if a man stood outside a school and hit people in the head with a piece of rebar would we outlaw the rebar? No we would not. It is not the tools fault that the craftsman is disturbed; it is societies fault for not paying proper attention to the proper problem. Mental Illness in this country has sky rocketed and we would all like to act like that isn’t true but it is and we as a society need to do something about it. It is obvious our current system of home care does not work so maybe building institutions that actually have people working in them that care and show signs of intelligence should be built.
What I do know is this, guns are protected by the constitution and they alone are not the problem so we need to spend some time looking at the real problem and stop blaming tools for poor human behavior.
