These questions I have no answer for, I have served my country for the better part of ten years in my youth, and I was once spit on by a woman walking into a store wearing my uniform, I can say I am as confused today as I was then about the poor reaction of the American public for the servicemen that protect them.
I wonder how many non military folks understand the difficulty of coming home after serving in combat, after being given an order by a politician to kill people that are supposed to be working against the idea of our freedoms and working toward taking the very freedom those people practice every time their mouth opens and the spew idiocy by calling American soldiers names. Remember please that most soldiers would love to collect a check for not fighting and retire without ever seeing a battlefield but they alone when called show up to the battlefield and without restraint take up arms to protect this country. They alone suffer the mental anguish of their actions and they alone bear the physical injuries of their chosen profession, a profession chosen mostly out of a desire to protect ones fellow Americans.
No one has forced a single American today to sign up for any branch of the Military and take an oath to defend this nation from all enemies. Each person signed that document and said that oath proudly of their own accord, each person bears the training of their chosen profession and takes on the brotherhood of all other soldiers and I for one am proud I did just that. When I see young men who have given of themselves that much to defend what most Americans take for granted I am proud to have been part of that heritage. When I see the dead return I have been known to weep at the loss, the loss of a human being who gave the last full measure of devotion protecting all Americans from any threat they were told to.
I wonder when it comes to cowardice and Michael Moore, when the bad guys come for you in the night are you standing behind these brave men and women. I wonder when the thieves come to your home if you explain your politics or if you call the police. I wonder if you have an ounce of bravery to protect others or if you are the one hiding in the dark recesses of your home waiting for others to protect you. I wonder Mr. Rogan if you even understand the sacrifice it takes to work for very little money and give so much to protect those you will never know. You who make millions from making comedies that portray that last ounce of devotion for you to laugh at and then sneer at the men and women that daily protect you and yours from those who would take it all away if they could.
These men and women of our Military do not want nor ask for anyone to thank them, they do not require your permission nor you’re your respect to know what the right thing to do is, they just wake up each day, put on their countries uniform and do what is asked of them without fanfare and without in most cases anyone’s knowledge of their sacrifice. Maybe instead of attacking these brave people you should give them what they would never ask for, your respect, and maybe just maybe you should say thank you for their sacrifice.
I for one will raise a glass tonight to all the men and women who serve and have ever have served, I will praise them to my children and I will teach my children to just be grateful of their sacrifice, say thank you and do what you can to help them when they can. I will teach my children to learn from their sacrifice and be proud if they choose that path themselves. These men and women of the military and those that have served in the past deserve no less.
To all the men and women who serve in our nation’s military or have served know there is at least one individual who is proud of you, who understands your sacrifice for I was their once and know that your sacrifices are not in vain. I say God Speed to you all and God Bless you for all you have done.
