- I have a message, a message that is loud and clear and does not mince words. We have come to take our country back.
These Are the first words in an opening salvo for President by Rand Paul and they are good words. No matter what your ideology it is hard to say man he is wrong and the reason is he is not wrong. The question is will we as citizens listen to him.
We have come to take our country back from the special interests that use Washington as their personal piggy bank, the special interests that are more concerned with their personal welfare than the general welfare.
First and foremost this sentiment is important, it means both those serving as elected officials and those who are not. If you are serving in an elected office your vision and all your decisions should be for the general welfare of all citizens. That is the only lens one can use to adjust meaning, any other and you are a traitor to your oath.
The Washington machine that gobbles up our freedoms and invades every nook and cranny of our lives must be stopped.
Personal liberty is the backbone of the creation of this nation, without it we are no different from other nations such as Iraq, Iran and China. Later in the speech Mr. Paul says this:
A return to privacy, opportunity, liberty. Too often when Republicans have won we have squandered our victory by becoming part of the Washington machine. That's not who I am.
This friend’s is a promise, a carefully worded one, this is why he is different and you should vote for nim and I must say it is a powerful one. If elected anyone can come back to this phrase at any time and place his promise against his actions for a rubric of whether he is doing what he said. Rand Paul has given you and every citizen of this nation a way to measure his Presidency should you choose him,
He later speaks honestly about who is to blame and for me this was an important part of the speech, he stated plainly:
It seems to me that both parties and the entire political system are to blame.
And then after stating that spending for both parties is incredibly high he said this:
If we nominate a candidate who is simply Democrat Light, what's the point?
Now the rest of the speech is more specific and gives all the reasons one should vote for Rand Paul but for all Americans I hope you read that one line and then asked yourself the same question, for whether you vote for Mr. paul or Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio, please think the vote through and whatever you do remember if you vote Democrat light what is the point? This line is probably the most important thing I have heard in a political speech in some time, maybe my whole life. America we can choose in this next election to stop all the things we despise in Washington or we can choose more of the same and that is really what this next election is about. Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton are both more of the same but there are a chosen few that will make a difference and change the system, please listen to them, make a choice for one of them and stick to it, from primary to general election and lets sweep the old guard out of office, so we may change the future for the better, so we can make a difference. It has been over a hundred years since the constitution has held any importance in Washington, it is time to bring it back, dust it off. It is time for us to read it and understand it and practice the principles it offers, it is time for us to be Americans again and not Americans light.
I thank Rand Paul for reminding me of that fact and for having the courage to stand for something instead of just standing against other candidates. It is way past time we as Americans stood for something again, I choose to stand for the principles of the Constitution, what do you stand for?
