So when we see video of a police person doing an already difficult job can we agree unless we see the whole situation we should give the benefit of the doubt to the police until we know the whole story? I say this in regard to McKinney Texas, if we as a nation had waited one day to pass judgment a police officer doing his job, protecting a neighborhood from children acting out of turn and harming that neighborhood would still be doing the right thing by his community.
First let’s place the blame in all the places it deserves to go, with the children who from the start were wrong to go into a neighborhood they were not a member and use facilities they had no permission to use. We can blame the parents who I am sure have more excuses for their children then a sieve has holes for their lack of teaching their children how to act in public, and the proper method of dealing with others including the police. We can blame the media for creating a situation the children seemed to want to take advantage of and did and lastly we can blame the government for always forgetting the rules and who they are suppose to protect, which as a reminder is not themselves but the Officers and the public they serve.
We see parents each day defending poor behavior on their children’s part and this situation is growing into a problem as these children grow up thinking they are owed something other than the ability to pursue happiness, life and liberty. I have bad news for every American, some of us will fail in our pursuit of happiness and pursuing happiness does not mean wealth or privilege. We need to remember no matter what we have no license to interfere with others pursuit of the same as those children felt they did, they were wrong and so are the parents that support them.
How many of those parents would have been cheering on the police if the roles were reversed and others children were interfering with their recreation, they paid for in their taxes or fees or with their own money for their yard? How many would have thought it an abuse if that was a white young lady arguing with the police and not doing what she was asked and the police confined her? I doubt that anyone would have heard a word about it and the reality here is the crime would be the same.
We as Americans must realize that we are owed nothing but our Life, Liberty and our pursuit of happiness and we cannot ever take that away from another arbitrarily. What those children did was wrong and deserved police intervention, after all we have created a society where people do not talk to each other anymore so we call the police, we have created a society where the police can no longer drive those children home and count on the parents to take care of the problem so they must arrest and charge them. Most important point here is that we the citizens have created this society and all of its rules; if we cannot live by them maybe we should make some changes but those changes need to be fair and across the board for every citizen.
