Mr. Lewis could see the good in people and moments by remembering to see his faith in every moment and feel it in every touch. He treated his faith like an old friend that came to explain things every now and again and then left so he could make the rest out for himself, all the time knowing Gods hand was in his life, shaping the wonder and chaos of it. Distilling those moments for his mind to understand the simplest fact, life is not in our control.
We live in a type of controlled chaos, a whirlwind which never stops. Winding about us like a snake and then showing us the evil and love like a shaman giving us the secrets of an old religion. Never sure if God has a plan for each of us but absolutely sure he molds parts of our life, enough so that we may understand he is present.
We all choose different names for God and act like our God is different from all the other peoples God, when we really know deep down in the recesses of our minds God is the same in all cultures. Not for or against any of us and without a care for our petty squabbles. God gives us glimpses into the worlds we should know and those with profound faith get to see more. Faith is a choice, a choice to believe that there is something greater then oneself. Faith is a confirmation of one’s soul becoming stronger; faith is also a reward, calmness in the chaos that although we are not in control, if we believe we will be OK.
C.S. Lewis understood faith as that light that when the world is seen through it, the world is seen as a magical place without end just transition. This is why faith is the greatest gift a person can give to themselves, a gift that allows the light to burn away the loneliness and leave us filled with meaning and a need to know more. Wanting to seek out answers is ok, it is what God intended, not that any real answers will come to us until we transition into something different, something better then ourselves, through faith.
It is this crucible that helps me understand other ideas of God and through this crucible I can say with confidence that Islam is not a beacon of faith, for it relies on threat of death to promulgate itself. It tells the world what to see and what to believe and then gives tangible reasons such as the threat of death to prove it is right. No real religion of God would rely on fear as the motivator of faith. It is easy to be afraid but it is the ultimate challenge to face death without the loss of faith but remember no religion who says it is one of compassion or reason would use the threat of violence to promote faith, all that will create is fear and that is the domain of the Devil. Each time a Muslim reaches out in anger and harms a Christian or a Jew they prove how unworthy of faith they really are and each time a Christian or a Jew face death at the hands of Islam with their faith secure in their hearts they undermine Islam just a little and show the rest of us that in honor and faith there is the ultimate reward of knowing God.
