We are supposed to be a nation with the rule of law, the highest in the world and we do not get into the top ten. We are dropping in property rights, fiscal and business freedom. If we are to regain our senses and our position these are the very areas that we need to act upon and they are the very areas our constitution protects us and yet our country slips further down the socialist hole each day.
I will begin by asking how did property rights become an issue? They are sacrosanct and yet our current government recognizes only itself as a property owner and slowly pulls us away from the ideals of ownership that drove this country to become great in the first place. There was no greater issue or promise made by our forefathers then the idea that each American could own his own property and live on it free from government interference and yet now they tell us how to live in almost every category of life and more importantly we allowed it.
Business and Fiscal freedom are connected and we have for some time been at war with businesses. We tax them to the point that they search for ways not to pay their taxes. We allow unions to make unreasonable demands and destroy the work force and then blame companies for finding cheaper labor. Then if that wasn’t enough we regulate everything, and I mean everything. Like the tax code the regulations for businesses needs its own library and what does it serve except for the government to try and collect more money from those evil companies, well those companies give us jobs and jobs keeps food on the table and clothes on our backs.
This statistic is reason enough for us as a community to look at our current government and make changes. Relax restrictions, change the tax code to a simple flat tax that is reasonable that all are willing to pay so that we do not have to pay others to find out what we owe and hate our government for taking to much. Stop taxing inheritance and vices (sin tax). Stop taxing our vehicles through gasoline and let the companies grow and the people enjoy good work for a change, which results in money to spend for our benefit not the governments. Less regulation and a change in taxes eliminate many government agencies that reduce need for finances and a citizen’s burden.
These changes will also move us back toward the number one spot of economic freedom and allow for this country to grow again.
Now changing the regulations and tax code to easier systems is just a first step toward a freer nation, then we need to tackle our criminal justice and education systems Both need to be given back to the states and changed so that they are sustainable and reflect our moral values and our ideas of freedom, equality of opportunity and stay within our means as a nation to enforce. We have much to do American, when do we start.
