The filibuster is a tool, no more and no less and therefore like all tools should be available to both sides of the aisle as should all other tools. Yet I wonder if the idea of compromise is so far gone in today’s politics that there can be no compromise at all to save what is left of our nation’s political system. We as citizens know that the current political structure has brought us very close to the brink of self destruction, with 18 Trillion in debt and a world war in the making, what will survive indeed? Maybe it is time for politicians to stop asking what is right for their party and start asking what is right.
Maybe it is time for the American people to start looking for candidates that have answers instead of blaming others for the problems. Maybe it is time we as a nation start down a new path, one in which we make lasting change for the better of all citizens, and by that I do not mean giving hand outs and begging for votes. Maybe it is time Americans reached deep into their memory and find that thing that defines what America is and share it with the rest of us, each American taking responsibility for our actions, helping the next and fixing this nation one second at a time.
Maybe it is time we as Americans tell Washington D.C. to put away the check book and the tax doll and let us put this nation back together, let us help our neighbor by helping them find work. Let us help our neighborhoods by eliminating all the regulations and laws so that we as citizens can take care of the neighborhood ourselves, with help from police and firemen.
Maybe it is time that we put the national welfare system away and offer real solutions, jobs,, training and education which in the end provide a paycheck and pride instead of a welfare recipient for life.
Maybe it is time to open the market by eliminating all regulations that do not apply to safety and even some that do, create an open and free market place so people will get paid their due at market prices, not some minimum wage determined by some politician. Maybe it is time to send many of our inmates into military service where they can learn discipline and skills instead of locking them up in a gladiatorial academy where they learn to be better criminals and leave our prisons to those who deserve to be locked away from the world. Maybe it is time to make community service a part of our everyday life and not an avoidance of jail time.
Maybe it is time that we understand our own constitution, teach it to our children properly and build on our freedom without the socialist aspects of government seem to think we cannot live without. Government is not a safety net; it is simply a barrier between anarchy and peace. We all know it has grown to large and is now destroying this nation under its own weight, so can we stop pretending that all this regulation and law is good for this nation it is not, can we stop pretending that this giant black hole of a welfare system helps it does not, can we stop adding to the problem? We all, each American know what the problem is, it is government itself, trying to replicate itself and make itself needed but is too large to survive anymore. It is time for us to simplify the system, in some cases take a step backward or two and in some pull the system out of the muck but it is time to reorder our nation under the views of the constitution and eliminate many departments and regulations and taxes and watch the nation grow instead of shrink each moment and starve us all as it goes.
Oh and by watch the nation grow, I simply mean watch her citizens thrive again as they should and will under the freedom provided by the God and protected under the constitution.
