How far afield does a University have to be to try and control speech? One would think that the freedom to speak to others about issues would be sacrosanct in that type of institution but more and more we are seeing our schools closed off to free speech which means they are also closing off to free thinking and once that happens they are no longer schools but indoctrination centers for whoever has the popular views at the moment.
The idea of free speech and free thought is the corner stone of imaginative thinking and problem solving, we as adults wonder what is happening to our children’s generation as they are now spending longer in their parent’s homes and unable to find competent work. Well part of the problem is that parents are not doing their job anymore and teaching life skills but part of the problem is that schools are no longer places to learn. They have become government owned factories of little robots that are supposed to pass a test. Which is about as effective as it sounds, according to Fairtest.org 70% of school children will fail those tests and then move on to college where they are taught to listen and not be heard. Folks this is not education and it never will be.
For our education system to work properly, this nation must work properly, we must all be advocates of free speech and Political correctness be damned. The idea of national standards and a national education department has been a failure since its inception, we pay 67.1 Billion dollars to this department to see a 70% failure rate, yet when the states had control of our education system we had one of the best education systems in the world. One would think common sense would prevail here and yet, not so much.
The point is this America if our colleges will not abide by the Constitution how are they to teach about it and if they need students that do not share ideas they have already failed in their intended goal, which is to create imaginative minds and make the world better not more controlled. Cal poly should be ashamed of themselves and the accreditation board should take away their status until changes are made, but alas we have a President that agrees with Cal Poly that the Constitution is in the way and I wonder what went wrong.
