Today I would like to take notice of the educational level of most Americans, when a person can be asked what three ships did Columbus sail across the Atlantic in and the most frequent answer is the mayflower, I begin to wonder about education. I then extrapolated this thought into politics, which made me wonder how many people even know what the Constitution says? In the end I found myself wondering if the current political landscape was the direct result of a apathetic population who has become so disconnected with our roots that we do not recognize simple truths anymore?
A simple truth such as the constitution is there to protect the people from the government. That being said it is interesting that people have told me that the constitution is an outdated document. How could someone say that if the very document that protects them is outdated? Only someone who has forgotten the constitutions purpose would even suggest it is outdated. There can be no expiration date on God given rights.
A simple truth such as the freedom of speech is a right God has given everyone, not just those we agree with. Disagreement is freedom and without disagreement resulting in change there is no freedom. Debate is healthy but silencing anyone for any reason is the first step toward tyranny and should not be tolerated by anyone but specifically any government agency such as the IRS.
A simple truth such as life begins at conception and therefore abortion as birth control should be immoral to all people the same as murder is to society. The death of any individual should be mourned for the absence of ideas and yet we allow millions of individuals to be aborted for petty reasons. Maybe instead of allowing abortions maybe we should teach restraint and moral fortitude.
A simple truth such as every individual has a right to defend themselves and their families from any danger, which inherently allows each of us to own the tools of defense such as guns to help in that pursuit. The actions of a man with a tool are the responsibility of the man not the tool. If a carpenter does a poor job we do not blame the hammer, how is it that we justify blaming the gun when an individual miss uses it?
Simple truths, we all know what they are, some of us disagree about how to handle them and that is OK, join the debate but remember we all have rights given to us by God reiterated in our constitution, which will never be outdated as those rights do not have an expiration date.
