Religious freedom restoration act. Provides that a state or local government action may not substantially burden a person's right to the exercise of religion unless it is demonstrated that applying the burden to the person's exercise of religion is: (1) essential to further a compelling governmental interest; and (2) the least restrictive means of furthering the compelling governmental interest. Provides that a person whose exercise of religion has been substantially burdened, or is likely to be substantially burdened, by a state or local government action may assert the burden as a claim or defense in a judicial proceeding, regardless of whether the state or a political subdivision of the state is a party to the judicial proceeding. Allows a person who asserts a burden as a claim or defense to obtain appropriate relief, including: (1) injunctive relief; (2) declaratory relief; (3) compensatory damages; and (4) recovery of court costs and reasonable attorney's fees.
The above is the act from Indiana that is causing such an uproar around the nation, governors not paying for travel to Indiana and for government employees to call conservatives nazi’s. This law according to the left allows discrimination against homosexuals and yet when I read it I find there is no mention of homosexuals at all. What, how can this be? After all news outlets are screaming discrimination so there must be something that creates a discriminatory attitude and there is but it is not what the media would want you to understand. The discrimination is not what the bill is about but how the media and others are attacking it. You see this nation has this document we call the constitution and in it we have these things called amendments of which the first ten are called the Bill of Rights and the very first one tells us that we have a God given right to worship in any way we choose, otherwise known as the freedom of religion. Oh yea and the same amendment tells us we have the right to talk about it, we call that the freedom of speech.
Well lets go forward now in time about 250 years to the present day, where we have so splintered the meaning of the 1st amendment that we are need of a law that defines it for us. The fact that we even need this law is proof that our system under the constitution is under attack and the constitution is losing.
Of course homosexuals should be allowed to marry that is their pursuit of happiness and in the same breath others do not have to participate when that participates interferes with their religious beliefs, this we might call common sense and no we should not need a law to tell us this. In fact if someone’s core beliefs are against homosexuality it is their right to voice that opinion and not take part in any event that may promote that idea, we call that the first amendment. We should not be forced to do anything we feel uncomfortable doing even if others do feel comfortable with it, that is to say, if a homosexual couple wants to get married fine go find a baker that does not have a problem with it and allow them to bake the cake, this is not a hard concept to understand and yet the fight continues.
I would argue at this point a couple of side issues, Mike Pence’s defense of this law is shameful as it does not address the core issue of why the law was necessary, that would be that Christians and all other religions have a right to follow the rules of their religions and not participate in any activities that do go against these rules. Mr. Pence lost a great deal of credibility with me in his attempt to appease the bully’s in this situation, which are the homosexuals. Yes I said that, they want equality and when they get it they want more than equality and that is wrong. They want to be left to their beliefs well my friends leave others to theirs. Also the idea that we as a nation under the Constitution need this law is reprehensible to me, it should be understood by every citizen that every citizens religious beliefs whatever they are are protected and allowed as well as every citizen has a right to voice their opinion whatever it is, whether you agree or not. Somehow we as a nation have forgotten this, the only reason a religion or lack of religion would be a problem or should be a problem for anybody is when its practice infringes on the rights of others, which is exactly what homosexuals are doing when they force others to believe what they believe through force of action.
It is a simple thing for this nation to tell the world we are free it is wholly difficult for us to actually act within the confines of freedom as the citizens of a free nation. Tolerance is not a one Way Street its demand requires those who demand also acquiesce and for those that hate to understand and practice common sense. Easily preached, not so easily practiced.
